Process

How a job actually goes

  1. 01

We look at the floor in the house

Species, wear, previous coats, stairs, transitions. Photos help. Standing on it is better. That visit is the estimate.

  2. 02

We sand to a clean, even wood

Old finish comes off. High spots and traffic lanes get worked until the floor will take stain or a clear finish. This is the noisy part. We run a dustless vac on the equipment.

  3. 03

Stain trials, if you want a color

Donette’s review: original red oak that was golden and glossy, and they wanted lighter with a matte finish. We ran stain trials until the shade was right. When the stain is Bona Chroma®, that is the water-based system we posted as North Alabama’s exclusive offering.

  4. 04

    Sealer and finish

Coat, dry, coat. Jay’s job used DriFast stain, oil-based sealer to add yellow, and two coats of Bona Traffic HD. We will tell you what is going on your floor before it goes on.

  5. 05

    Walk-through

Celina’s review: Josh did everything to make sure they were happy with the results. That is still the standard.

Hardwood sanding, staining, refinishing

Most floors do not need to be ripped out. They need the old film off and a finish that belongs in a house people live in. We sand, we stain when you want a color, and we finish. If the boards are too thin or too far gone, we will say so.

We highly recommend Alabama Hardwood Restoration. Josh and his team did excellent work refinishing our hardwood floors. Our original red oak floors were golden and glossy. We wanted an updated look that was lighter with a matte finish. They worked with us through several stain trials until we arrived at the perfect shade for our home. They also did a great job refinishing our staircase and updating the posts and balusters. All great work and reasonable price.

New hardwood, including 5" white oak

Carpet coming up. A floor that cannot take another sanding. Jo Ann’s 1890-era house: the original floors could not be saved, so we put down 5" white oak. Jeff and Glennis wanted a specific finish on 5" white oak plank and wrote that we listened and made it happen.

Matching new work to old work is part of the job. Chad, a home builder, had us finish new flooring in an 1,100 sq ft addition and refinish the existing floors so they blended.

I'm a residential home builder, and I previously managed the go to hardwood flooring supply business in town, when it was time to do my personal home, there was only one company I called. We did an extensive 1100 sq/ft addition to our home, Josh and his crew finished all our new flooring and also refinished our existing flooring. It all blends perfectly and looks amazing.

Custom stairs, treads, posts, and balusters

Stairs take the beating. We refinish treads, update posts and balusters, and build custom staircases with the floors. Erika’s review is about brand-new hardwood through the house and a custom staircase on the same job. Donette had the staircase refinished and the posts and balusters updated.

We used Alabama Hardwood Restoration for a couple of things and they absolutely exceeded our expectations on both. Brand new hardwood floors throughout our entire home and a STUNNING custom staircase! Their whole team was professional, detail focused, and got everything done in a timely manner. Highly recommend and will be using again in the future!

Breathe easy. Bona Chroma eliminates harsh chemical fumes and strong odors, making the refinishing process safe and comfortable for your family and pets.
Rapid Recoat & Faster Turnaround
Dries significantly faster than conventional oil stains, allowing for quicker application of protective finish coats and less downtime out of your home.
Non-Combustible Formula
Enhances jobsite safety with water-based chemistry that eliminates spontaneous combustion risks associated with oil-soaked rags.
Seamless Compatibility
Formulated to integrate directly with Bona's industry-leading waterborne finishes and sealers for maximum durability and long-term protection.

Jay’s job used DriFast stain and Bona Traffic HD on the finish side. We will tell you which stain and which finish belong on your floor before a can is opened.

Dustless vac on the equipment

Sanding wood makes dust. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. We run a dustless vacuum on the sander so the mess stays with the machine instead of through the rest of the house.

They just completed sanding, staining and finishing our floors in an 1890 era house. The original floors could not be saved so we put down 5" white oak. We couldn't be more pleased. They look fantastic. Josh and Mike were great to work with. Everything was left clean at the end of each day and they use a dustless vac on the equipment so we didn't have to tape up everything.
