Stairs are part of the same job as the floors
The stair is the first thing you see from the foyer. If the treads are a different stain than the hall, the house looks like two contractors. We sand, stain, and coat the stairs with the floors — or we rebuild the steps when the existing treads will not take another sanding. Either way, it is one crew and one finish schedule.
We're a hardwood company. LVP, vinyl, carpet, and laminate aren't what we install. A showroom that also sells vinyl is a different business. A multi-flooring shop will sell you a vinyl nosing or a carpet runner and call the stair done. Carpeted stairs, worn oak, a split-level landing, a curved balcony rail — we convert that to custom hardwood. Screen-and-recoat and cabinet refinishing aren't the work.
Unfinished stair parts for the same job
We sell unfinished stair parts — treads, risers, skirt boards, and transitions — as supply for stair jobs we build or remodel, and for homeowners who want unfinished parts we can sand and finish to match the floor. Not a big-box flooring store. We don't sell vinyl nosings or carpet runners. More on unfinished hardwood flooring and stair parts. Call (256) 665-2161.
Color-matched treads, risers, and skirt boards
New solid-wood treads, risers, skirt boards, and transitions get sampled against the adjoining floor under the house’s light. The handrail and newels get the same stain when they are in the scope. We use Bona Chroma® color systems in North Alabama. Jobs that need a specific tone can use Bona Chroma® stain and Bona Traffic HD — a waterborne, low-VOC, GREENGUARD Gold certified topcoat (Bona product certification, not a company badge) — so the stair and the floor read as one surface.
Lived-in houses still get dust containment. High-efficiency extraction keeps sanding dust out of the air, ductwork, and furniture. Pets and kids stay off the stairs while we sand and while finish cures. Rooms we are not working in stay usable.

Stairs FAQ
- Do you refinish stairs as part of the same floor job?
- Yes. Stairs are core work, not a later add-on. Treads, risers, skirt boards, and transitions get the same stain and topcoat as the adjoining floor so the foyer does not look like two contractors. We refinish existing steps when they will take another sanding, or we rebuild them when they will not.
- Can you color-match new treads to an existing oak floor?
- Yes. We sample on the floor and on the new wood under the house's light. Jobs that need a specific tone can use Bona Chroma® stain and Bona Traffic HD — a waterborne, low-VOC, GREENGUARD Gold certified topcoat (Bona product certification, not a company badge) — so the stair and the floor read as one job.
- Do you work on stairs in a lived-in house?
- Yes. Dust containment is built for lived-in homes. High-efficiency extraction keeps sanding dust out of the air, ductwork, and furniture. Pets and kids stay off the stairs while we sand and while finish cures. We come to the house — there is no public street address. Call (256) 665-2161 for a free on-site estimate.
- Do you put LVP, vinyl, or carpet on stairs?
- No. Carpeted stairs get converted to hardwood treads, risers, and skirt boards — not a vinyl kit and not a carpet runner.
- Do you sell unfinished stair parts?
- Yes. We sell unfinished stair parts — treads, risers, skirt boards, and transitions — as supply for stair jobs we build or remodel, and for homeowners who want unfinished parts we can sand and finish to match the floor. We do not sell vinyl nosings or carpet runners. [Unfinished hardwood flooring in Huntsville](/unfinished-hardwood-flooring-huntsville). Call (256) 665-2161.

We measure the stair, check whether the existing treads can take another sand, and put the rebuild-versus-refinish call in a written quote. We install hardwood and we sand-and-finish it. That's hardwood floor refinishing, not a flooring showroom. Call (256) 665-2161 or send the contact form.
