What drives the cost of hardwood floor refinishing in Huntsville

Alabama Hardwood Restoration does not publish a price for hardwood floor refinishing in Huntsville. The quote is written after we see the floor. This page is what moves that number. Call (256) 665-2161.

Square footage and room count

More floor is more sanding, more finish, and more time in the house. Room count matters too. A single open room and the same square footage cut into a hall, a kitchen, and three bedrooms are not the same setup. We measure on site. We don't publish a rate.

Current finish and wax buildup

A film that is worn through in the lanes is a full sand. Old wax is different work: it has to come off before a new finish will hold, and that is more prep than a floor that is simply dull. We can see which one you have when we are standing on it. We can't see it from a photo well enough to name a price.

Stain versus natural

A natural look and a stain are different steps. Stain gets sampled on your boards under the house's light before we commit a room. That extra step changes the quote. We don't print the difference.

Bona Chroma color

Bona Chroma® is the color system when the job needs a specific tone, or when color in the finish can correct a sound floor. It is not a shortcut when the boards are worn through. Using it changes the quote. The GREENGUARD Gold label people ask about belongs to Bona Traffic HD, the topcoat, not to Alabama Hardwood Restoration as a company.

Finish system: Rubio or Bona Traffic HD

Two systems. We pick one. Rubio Monocoat® Oil Plus 2C is advertised 0% VOC — color and protection in one coat. We are the only hardwood company in North Alabama using it. Bona Traffic HD is a waterborne, low-VOC film and is GREENGUARD Gold certified on the Bona product. The system changes the quote. We don't publish a price for either one.

Board repairs and water damage

Replacing boards and blending them into the adjoining oak is part of the job when the damage is local. Water damage past a local repair is a different conversation — repair what can be saved, or install new hardwood where it can't. Either way it moves the quote. We check it on site.

Stairs, per tread

Stairs are per-tread work. Each tread is its own sand. Landings, risers, and a turn add to that. A flat living room of the same square footage does not include that labor. Custom stairs that have to be rebuilt, not just refinished, are a larger change to the quote. We don't publish a per-tread price.

Furniture and access

We move what has to move so we can sand. A room that is packed, a piano, a tight stair, or a house we can only reach through one door changes how the day runs. It belongs on the quote. Rooms we are not sanding stay usable.

Dust containment setup

Dust containment is how we sand a lived-in house: high-efficiency extraction so sanding dust stays out of the air, the ducts, and the furniture. It is part of the job, not an add-on product and not the Dustless brand. The setup is in the quote.

Engineered wear-layer checks

Engineered hardwood can often be refinished if enough of the real-wood wear layer is left. We check that on site. We don't invent a thickness from a photo, and we don't promise a sand the veneer can't take. If it can't, the honest job is board repair or new hardwood — not LVP — and that is a different quote.

Why we quote in person

Two houses with the same square footage can be two different jobs. Wear, stairs, repairs, and the finish you want are not visible well enough on the phone to name a number we would stand behind. We come out, measure, and leave a written quote. The visit is free. There is no public street address. The sand-and-finish process and dust-contained sanding pages cover how the work actually runs.

The same crew quotes hardwood floor refinishing Decatur AL and hardwood floor refinishing Athens AL. If the floor cannot take another sand, the next step is hardwood floor installation in Huntsville — unfinished solid or unfinished engineered, not LVP.

Cost questions

How much does hardwood floor refinishing cost in Huntsville?
We don't publish a price. Square footage, the current finish, stairs, repairs, and the finish system all change the quote. The number comes from an in-home look and a written estimate. Call (256) 665-2161.
Why won't you quote hardwood refinishing per square foot?
The same square footage can be two different jobs. Worn-through traffic lanes, stairs, board repairs, and a stain are not the same as a flat room with a sound film. A per-square-foot menu would be a guess. We look at the floor.
Does stain change the refinishing quote?
Yes. Leaving the floor natural and putting a stain on it are different steps. Bona Chroma® color is its own system. We sample on your boards. We don't publish how much that step adds.
Do stairs change the cost of a refinish?
Yes. Stairs are per-tread work. Each tread, the landing, and the risers are sanded with the floor, and that is a different job than a flat room. We don't publish a stair price.
Is the Huntsville refinishing estimate free?
Yes. Free in-home estimate. We come out, measure, and leave a written quote. Call (256) 665-2161.
Is the cost different in Decatur or Athens?
The factors are the same. We still quote after we see the floor. See hardwood floor refinishing Decatur AL and hardwood floor refinishing Athens AL. No per-square-foot menu price in either city.
